Top 10 Tips for Getting Backlinks to Your Website

Thinking of outsourcing your reciprocal linking? Think again. There are more benefits to linking than just getting links. Consider doing at least some work yourself.

First let’s make a master list, all the usual ways we can think of to get quality, relevant links back to a website.

1. Fill out a form or email a webmaster, asking for a reciprocal link. We’ll assume for the purpose of clarity that we mean exchanging links to post to a traditional directory page.

2. Deep linking. You embed your partner’s link into relevant text on a page other than your directory page, and your partner does the same with your link.

3. Links from signatures. This can be a signature you place at the end of every email you send out, or in forum posts.

4. Comments left on other websites. This can be a blog or a comment form on any website. These will usually have your website url attached to the comment.

5. Submit your website to niche or general website directories. These can be paid or free; I choose depending on what I need to do to get a link without having to put a link on my website. I prefer free, but it’s a personal choice.

6. Write and syndicate articles and include your url link in the resource box. Write exclusive articles for high-traffic sites that rank highly in search engine results.

7. Mix up the above 5 ways. For example, if you’d like a link from a site with a higher page rank than your own, ask for a link on their directory page in exchange for a link on your homepage as well as in your directory. Save this idea for one or two HIGHLY relevant but non-competitive sites, and only if their search engine results are on, say, page 1 of Google.

8. Write testimonials and reviews. Communicate personally with webmasters. Write up a short review of their website or product rather than sending them a generic request for a link trade. Don’t wait for them to ask for a testimonial, send them one anyways. For example, instead of saying “I visited your site and like it a lot, I agree with what you say about (blah blah) and thought we’d make great link partners, would you like to…” try summing up what it is about your business that relates to the other website. Promote your business in a way that’s in XYZ’s best interests to print as a testimonial- how their product benefits your business.

As a webmaster, I’d love to receive an email like that. I’d write right back and ask if I could use it on my website.

9. Write reviews where they’re asked for. Search around. Don’t look too far The big names are the places you want to go. Take Amazon.com for example. People click over to Amazon with their credit cards ready. They are discerning shoppers and they are often repeat customers; they read reviews, they follow links to “what else purchasers of [a particular product] bought”. So write reviews of products that relate to your website topic. Book reviews are the easiest; follow your nose to the bestsellers or new books in your category at the library.

10. Communicate with whoever you represent as an affiliate. Create a product such as a user manual or report (”10 Tips for Succeeding as an XYZ Affiliate” or “How to Increase Your Productivity Using [XYZ’s Product] in your Home Office”)and imbed your url link(s) in it. Let the affiliate program manager distribute your report or manual to his affiliates. Or again, write a glowing testimonial to the program, product or owner’s customer service, etc.

By thinking about how you can offer a benefit to your link partner, you’ll not only be building relevancy and credibility in the eyes of the search engines, but you’ll be building valuable relationships with your link partners and a reputation as an innovative, creative expert in your field.

There are two breaking news related to AdSense

There are few new queries most of the publishers have about
AdSense program, and their new terms of service. AdSense
Support team has now clarified all of these issues.

First query is, Does Google allow other ads to run
on the same page as AdSense Ads?

The answer is "yes".

You may not run ads that are designed to resemble AdSense ads.
For example, Yahoo! Ads look very similar to AdSense ads.
But you can place the Yahoo! Ads on other pages of same domain
i.e. pages other than Adsense ads.

However, contextual ads like provided by Amazon and Chitika are allowed
on the same pages as your AdSense ads!

Next important query is about Google's recent "images next to ads"
feature and there is lot of confusion among publishers :

Now we can put images next to the Google ads. Its fantastic!
Yes this can also increase your Adsense revenue.

But Google prefers that publishers avoid images
that are lined up directly next to the ads so that
it appears each ad is associated with an image. If
the dimensions of the image are completely different
than the dimensions of the ads, that's okay.

Idea is that Google does not want visitors

Even if you don't use a splash page, a gateway or doorway page is important, especially if you are promoting an affiliate program. Most affiliate programs provide you with a replicated page, and they are usually quite nice, but they are also not only just like everyone else's, the meta tags on the page are ultimately identifying the owner of the program to the search engines, not you. A simple, lightweight doorway page with little or no graphics outside of a picture of you, with a short description and a link to your affiliate sign up page, is very effective, gives the personal touch, and gets you noticed by the search engines, especially if you make sure you are identified in the meta tags of your page. I have been using traffic exchanges since August 2006 so my advise is from a "newbie". Here is what I have learned:
1. Buy upgrades in "old timers", ie... IloveHits, StartxChange, TopSurfer, etc. You will get a lot of exposure and will be getting the most from your financial investment.
2. Buy yearly upgrades in the newer traffic exchanges whenever possible. Normally they offer "random referrals", lots of hit credits, and again, you get lots of exposure for your financial investment.
3. Use your name, picture, and company logo. You would not believe the number of downline members I get just because they knew it was me advertising the traffic exchange. Talk about "viral" start your own viral downline builder - YOU.
4. Always, always contact your downline. Many traffic exchanges provide emails notifying you of new downline members. Send a welcome email, let them know they are more than a name. Let them know you recognize they are a person just like you trying achieve their dreams.
5. Use credits if necessary to contact downline members. Some traffic exchanges don't give you away to contact downline members unless you are transferring credits. Transfer those credits, say hi, give them your email address and an invitation to contact you.

Building a business online is no different then if you ran a donut shop. Think about it, where do you get your coffee every morning, grocery shop, etc. You go to these places because someone greets you with a smile and makes you feel comfortable. Building a business online is no different.

Although you are using Targeted Traffic, and therefore the category of your prospects match the content of your site, the truth is that your prospects have never seen your site before. They don't know you from Adam.

They have been diverted to your website by a very clever computer. You must catch their attention fast within 3 seconds, or they will click away.

Your Home Page simply won’t do. Your Home Page is designed for visitors - people who decided to visist your website, not people who were diverted to your website.

These are people who have come to your site with their hands held up in the air saying I’m interested, tell me more.

Your home page most likely will be filled with offers, ways to join your email list and a whole load of benefits and information all too much to be absorbed in 3 seconds.

You need a special StartPage that loads quickly, is devoid of distractions yet clearly and prominently displays your message and the action you want people to take.

To get the best from your Targeted Traffic, NEVER assign your normal Home page as the page to load for your Targeted Traffic campaign. Never!

Think of a StartPage as a banner ad. But a banner ad with a difference. It will be a full-page Ad, exactly 800 x 600 pixles.

Assume it will be shown for no more than 3 seconds.

You have a maximum time of 3 seconds for your prospect to view your page, assimilate your message, work out what to do if they're interested in your offerings and take the necessary action. Within that 3 seconds is also the time taken to load any graphics you may have.

	If it can be done, within the fast loading criteria – it should have a means to collect email addresses.

1. Affiliate Program

This is the risk free way to advertise on the web, you can pay your affiliates a commission on any sales they bring in. Some affiliates specialise in high ranking landing pages that could be used to drive traffic to your site, and all they want in return is a slice of the action. You can either create your own scheme using some of the free scripts available or use a middle man such as www.cj.com (very expensive) or www.affiliatefuture.co.uk (a bit cheaper).

2. Email Marketing

Are you collecting e-mail addresses of your visitors ? if not why not ? Emailing your customer list can be one of the cheapest ways to generate traffic as you already have built up a relationship and hopefully trust. It's only Spam if they have not consented to have being sent an e-mail and you must give them the option to opt-out. 3. Website Monitoring

4. Offline marketing campaign

Don't write off traditional marketing techniques - classified adds, leaflets, business cards, cold calling !!!. The big boys may have cornered the market for search terms such as mortgage and loans, but a leaflet drop in your local area can be very affective.

5. Forum signatures

Contribute to forums that concern your area of focus. Always be on topic and useful. A forum post is not....
